Ten Minute Sweet and Spicy Shrimp is one of my favorite quick recipes to make on the Traeger. Most of the ingredients are probably already in your pantry, and it’s a PERFECT dish to throw together after a long day.
When I worked in remote Alaska, setting crab and shrimp pots was part of everyday life. We had access to fresh Dungeness crab and prawns almost constantly, and there were few people around besides our guests. Those were great times — though I wish I’d had this recipe back then. Even the best prawns would have been elevated by this simple sweet-and-spicy marinade.

On this occasion I used store-bought shrimp — they were perfectly fine — but if you have fresh prawns, even better.
Sweet and Spicy Grilled Shrimp – What You’ll Need
This recipe grills in about ten minutes. The key is letting the shrimp sit in the marinade so the flavors penetrate. You can marinate up to 12 hours, but even 20 minutes delivers great flavor.
For this sweet and spicy grilled shrimp you’ll need the following (exact amounts are in the recipe card below):
- 1–2 lbs shrimp, peeled and deveined
- Mike’s Hot Honey Extra Hot (or equivalent hot honey)
- Soy sauce
- Minced garlic
- Fresh ginger
Mike’s Hot Honey is central to the flavor here. If you don’t have it, regular honey plus ½–1 tsp cayenne will work as a substitute — the taste will be slightly different but still delicious.
Sweet and Spicy Shrimp Marinade
In a sealable container combine the hot honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated fresh ginger. Add the shrimp and toss to coat thoroughly. Refrigerate while the shrimp marinate. As noted above, marinate for at least 20 minutes and up to 12 hours depending on your schedule.

Ten Minute Sweet and Spicy Shrimp on the Grill
Preheat your grill or smoker to 500°F (260°C). Thread the marinated shrimp onto skewers — this makes flipping quick and easy. You can also cook the shrimp in a large cast-iron skillet, but grilling on skewers helps the marinade caramelize on the surface for extra flavor.

Place the skewers directly on the hot grates. Grill for 3–4 minutes, flip, and grill another 3–4 minutes until the shrimp are opaque and slightly caramelized. Remove from the grill and let rest briefly.

That’s it — quick, flavorful shrimp in roughly ten minutes of cooking time. Serve them right off the skewers, over a bed of rice, alongside grilled vegetables, or with a simple salad. They pair well with lime wedges or a light slaw.
I hope you try this ten minute sweet and spicy shrimp recipe. If you do, leave a comment or share a photo — I’d love to hear how it turned out.
