Kids’ Pizza Margherita Cooking Video — Chef Junior Sneak Peek

Be still my heart… I don’t dare enter the kitchen anymore during kids’ cooking night because I kibitz too much, but I know the kids have fun and do a great job. Here’s a peek into what Paul and Leah do on Wednesday nights!

This week they made one of Paul’s recipes from Chef Junior, a cookbook by kids, for kids. Paul edited the whole video himself, and I didn’t even see it until it was finished!

How did he do? #proudmama

Your kids can make margherita pizza using any homemade crust, pizza or spaghetti sauce, fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, fresh basil, olive oil, and salt. For Paul’s exact proportions and tips, get the cookbook Chef Junior.

Paul was inspired to write this recipe after editing an interview with a chef about margherita pizza.

Enjoy!

Margherita Pizza Recipe for Kids

Ingredients

  • Pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)
  • Tomato sauce
  • Fresh mozzarella
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Fresh basil
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Prepare your pizza dough according to your recipe. Roll it out to your desired thickness.
  2. Pre-bake the crust for about 7 minutes in a 450°F (232°C) oven to help prevent a soggy center.
  3. Remove the crust and spread a thin layer of tomato sauce. Top with slices of fresh mozzarella and tomato.
  4. Bake again for 7–8 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden.
  5. Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately place whole basil leaves on top so they wilt slightly from the residual heat.
  6. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a light sprinkle of salt to taste. Slice and serve warm.
