Spring has finally arrived on the East Coast — time for detoxing, yoga, and soaking up some sun. For me, detox rituals include a weekly Epsom salt bath with baking soda, coconut oil and essential oils. For daily nutrition I prefer fresh juice. Carrot apple juice is a staple in our home. With busy schedules it’s not always possible to juice every day, but I aim for at least every other day.

I’ve gotten my whole family into juicing. My husband used to drink only fresh-squeezed orange juice, but he now enjoys a variety of fruit and vegetable blends. Our 22-month-old son is also hooked — the moment he hears the juicer he runs to the kitchen with excitement. He helps at the counter on his little step stool and loves making his own juice.
I mix many combinations, but the basics I always keep on hand are carrots, apples, oranges, spinach and beets. Of course, feel free to experiment with whatever produce you have available.

I always include carrots and apples as a base, then add other fruits or vegetables depending on what’s in the fridge. I buy organic whenever possible — the skin of apples and carrots contains a lot of nutrients, so I wash and chop them into pieces without peeling. I’ve noticed I react to non-organic apples with itchy lips and redness, so organic is important for our family.
Yields depend on your juicer and the produce, but roughly four medium carrots and one apple make about one cup of fresh juice. A cup of carrot-apple juice delivers a strong nutritional boost: it’s rich in potassium, contains some sodium, and is an exceptional source of vitamin A. Carrot juice also supports liver cleansing, making this a great choice to kick off spring wellness routines. Start juicing and enjoy this simple, nourishing carrot apple juice.
