This five-tier showstopper blends glamorous gold sequins with soft, romantic pastels for an irresistibly feminine look. Alternating glittering gold tiers with watercolor-inspired chevron panels, the cake features subtle pastel hues accented with touches of gold. A scalloped border trimmed with delicate gold rope and two lush peonies complete the elegant composition.
This creation comes from Rachel Skvaril, owner of Fondant Flinger in New Orleans. Rachel designed the cake to celebrate the launch of a new collection of cake stands by Sarah’s Stands. The Picture Perfect collection introduces updated color options, new sizes, and an improved finish that resists dents and scratches. Displayed on the new At First Blush stand, Rachel’s cake looks especially striking.
Rachel of Fondant Flinger shares the inspiration behind her design:
“Metallic gold and sequins are everywhere right now, and I immediately wanted to include them in this cake. When I saw the beautiful color of the Sarah’s Stand, I knew I wanted to bring in mint, add gold sequins, and highlight the stand’s pink tone within the palette.”
Rachel of Fondant Flinger explains her technique:
“I used wafer paper combined with a faux gold leaf technique to create the patterned tiers. The watercolor effect of the chevron pattern was enhanced with petal dusts for added depth and shading. Peonies are among my favorite flowers, so I made them the focal point. I love the contrast of textures—the soft, delicate petals, the dimensional shimmer of the gold sequin tiers, and the subtle sheen of the wafer paper. Sarah’s Stand is the perfect finishing touch, adding a sleek silhouette, a pop of color, and just the right amount of shine.”
