Lessons from 2020 That Changed Us — Plus What’s Next

With the new year here and 2020 behind us, I’m reflecting on the lessons and changes that year brought. In this solo episode I share three things I learned during a challenging year, highlight the top five episodes from 2020, and offer a sneak peek at the new podcast season starting next week.

Top 3 Lessons from 2020

2020 was a year of unexpected change, loss, and upheaval. It taught me the importance of flexibility, the difficulty and necessity of holding competing emotions at once, and the value of creating meaning from within by asking different questions. It was messy and hard — I wasn’t a perfect student of these lessons — but those experiences reshaped how I approach work, rest, and relationships.

After recovering from burnout in late 2019, 2020 didn’t unfold the way I hoped. Still, there’s value in the lessons learned, and I hope they resonate with you or offer a new perspective.

Dismantling Diet Culture

One clear theme among last year’s most-listened episodes was diet culture: understanding its many facets and exploring kinder, more compassionate, and more inclusive approaches to nutrition and fitness. Across guest interviews and solo episodes, we examined how to move away from extremes and toward listening to our bodies and trusting inner wisdom.

The top five episodes of 2020 were:

  • 268 – 5 Ways to Build Body Respect
  • 275 – The Anti-Diet Approach to Eating with Evelyn Tribole
  • 287 – Top 5 Things to Know Before You Start Intuitive Eating
  • 289 – How to Ditch Dieting (Intuitive Eating Principle 1)
  • 313 – How to Stop a Bad Body Image Day with Bri Campos

A Look Ahead to the Podcast in 2021

I’m excited to kick off a new season next week with episode 316. Expect a refreshed content focus, new guests, and possibly a refreshed look. The next season will continue to explore practical, compassionate approaches to food, movement, and body image while bringing new voices and perspectives into the conversation.
