Thursday Tips: How to Treat and Prevent Runny Noses

Poor Warren has had a relentless runny nose for the past couple of weeks. It runs constantly, and I’m amazed he stays hydrated since much of what he drinks seems to come right back out his nose. With that in mind, I want to share two practical products that have helped my children. They don’t cure the underlying cause, but they do provide real relief and make daily life easier.

Little Noses Saline Spray/Drops

Little Noses saline spray

Little Noses saline spray and drops are excellent for easing nasal congestion caused by colds, sinus irritation, dry indoor air, and allergies. A big thanks to my sister for recommending them. The method is simple: squirt a small amount into each nostril, wait a few seconds, and the mucus loosens and comes out—often in surprising amounts. For best results, I combine the saline with a nasal aspirator to remove the loosened mucus more effectively.

I appreciate that Little Remedies® products are formulated without unnecessary additives, which reduces the risk of side effects. Their saline solution contains no pseudoephedrine, alcohol, or harsh preservatives and offers a gentle formula suitable for young children. These products are made in the USA and designed with safety and simplicity in mind.

Boogie Wipes

Boogie Wipes are another helpful option for messy noses. These saline-infused wipes are soft, gentle, and effective at dissolving and removing dried mucus without irritating delicate skin. I keep a couple of packages on hand for when noses are particularly bad—these wipes do exactly what they promise. The texture is soft, they remove crusted boogies easily, and they make clean-up much less stressful.

The only drawback I’ve noticed is their size: the wipes are fairly large, and I don’t usually want to carry a damp wipe in my pocket. To make them more convenient and stretch each pack further, I typically tear or cut each wipe in half before use. That way they last longer and I waste less.

If you have other tips or products that work well for runny noses—homemade remedies, humidifier recommendations, or favorite brands—I’d love to hear them. Practical, gentle solutions can make a big difference when little ones are feeling miserably congested.
