Welcome to SkyBar Kuala Lumpur, on the 33rd floor of the Traders Hotel.

When Scott and I travel to major international cities, we make a point of seeking out memorable bars—especially rooftop spots or places with outstanding views. In Kuala Lumpur we wanted both a great view and a stylish setting. After looking into our options, we discovered a common trade-off: many rooftop bars didn’t offer the iconic skyline angle, while some indoor venues had a spectacular view. We chose the indoor option that promised the best sightlines.

Our hostel receptionist recommended SkyBar as one of the city’s top bars, praising its atmosphere and the view of the Petronas Towers. He warned us that drinks were expensive and suggested having a couple at the hostel first, and that we should dress smartly because of a dress code. That advice was relaxed in practice—other guests arrived in denim shorts or tees—but we still dug out one of the few clean, smart-looking outfits I keep for evenings out.
